چکیده

Basic principles and examples of elasticity imaging aresummarized. The chapter focuses on static ultrasonicmethods, and it discusses the advantages and limitationsof this approach in the context of dynamic methods andalternative imaging modalities from the literature. We re-view the physics of continuum deformations as a way toevaluate various experimental approaches. A generalstrategy for the design of ultrasonic elasticity imaging al-gorithms for static deformations is also described. The ob-jective is to summarize and critically assess a subset ofcurrent approaches to this exciting new field.Shankar gk.ramu / Art No. ebs396 1^11 10 ELASTICITY IMAGING

Acoustic radiation force-based elasticity imaging methods.

Conventional diagnostic ultrasound images portray differences in the acoustic properties of soft tissues, whereas ultrasound-based elasticity images portray differences in the elastic properties of soft tissues (i.e. stiffness, viscosity). The benefit of elasticity imaging lies in the fact that many soft tissues can share similar ultrasonic echogenicities, but may have different mechanical prop...

Ultrasound Elasticity Imaging System with Chirp-Coded Excitation for Assessing Biomechanical Properties of Elasticity Phantom

The biomechanical properties of soft tissues vary with pathological phenomenon. Ultrasound elasticity imaging is a noninvasive method used to analyze the local biomechanical properties of soft tissues in clinical diagnosis. However, the echo signal-to-noise ratio (eSNR) is diminished because of the attenuation of ultrasonic energy by soft tissues. Therefore, to improve the quality of elastograp...

Application of numerical methods to elasticity imaging.

Elasticity imaging can be understood as the intersection of the study of biomechanical properties, imaging sciences, and physics. It was mainly motivated by the fact that pathological tissue presents an increased stiffness when compared to surrounding normal tissue. In the last two decades, research on elasticity imaging has been an international and interdisciplinary pursuit aiming to map the ...

Model-Based Reconstructive Elasticity Imaging Using Ultrasound

Elasticity imaging is a reconstructive imaging technique where tissue motion in response to mechanical excitation is measured using modern imaging systems, and the estimated displacements are then used to reconstruct the spatial distribution of Young's modulus. Here we present an ultrasound elasticity imaging method that utilizes the model-based technique for Young's modulus reconstruction. Bas...

Ultrasonic Elasticity Imaging as a Tool for Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Research

Ultrasonic elasticity imaging is a promising new tool for breast cancer diagnosis and management. Ultrasound is applied to sense small local tissue deformations noninvasively to image stiffness and thus exploit the large intrinsic stiffness contrast generated during the progression of many diseases in vivo. This paper briefly reviews several related approaches to breast elasticity imaging to ex...
